Wake-up call 3:15 AM

Published by Yael Blum under Ponderings

We’ve packed, sorted, repacked, re-sorted, and set our alarm for an early take off. Montana can’t sleep, I’m drinking rum. Shot glass. Money (check), Travellers Cheques (check) Carccasonne (check)…oh thats the board game we’re taking-minus the board. On top of that we have a tonne of homeopathics and i figure if we run out of money i can set up a little natural pharmacy on the beach and charge pesos for consultations. This trip is such a big deal. Truly. For both of us. Tomorrow night we’ll be feeling the heat of the Caribbean night. Buenas Suertas.

Leadership Coach to Globe Trottin’ Mama

Published by Yael Blum under Parenting, Ponderings, creativity

Today marks an  official, but temporary, departure from all things coach-esque. For the next five weeks I will be on the road as a globe trottin’ mama with my magnificent 13 year old daughter by my side. We’re in it together. Though I have been the one obsessing over the details of our itinerary. As of February 20th we are bound for the Yucatan area of Mexico. Further afield we expect to explore Belize along with one or two cayes, the Peten region of Guatemala, Copan and the coastal area of Honduras, and maybe even Nicaragua….As we make final preparations over the next week I’ll be keeping a little blog journal…stay tuned. And thanks for reading….

Probortunity

A probortunity is simultaneously the kernel of possibility and the problem. A probortunity is a different kind of conundrum, requiring the mental acts of investigating and solving, as well as a willingness and urge to germinate and grow something entirely new and inspiring.

We have all had experiences where we talk about the silver lining. You’ve probably heard people say things like, “well if it hadn’t been for that car accident I never would have met my future husband” and you probably know people who praise the challenges they’ve faced as cataclysmic  events when their lives took on new meaning,  purpose and direction. Mostly these comments are after-the-fact sentiments that help us to make sense of why bad things have happened to us in the first place. A probortunity however, is born from a proactive sensibility rather than a reactive one. I believe there is tremendous power in this small, cumbersome  and illegitimate word. These days, with the onslaught of problems a fresh and hopeful spark may help each of us grow a sweeter, juicier fruit right from the start.
